Blood Tests

In-house laboratory — fast results

Our clinic has a well-equipped in-house laboratory where we analyse most blood samples on-site. This means you receive results most often during the visit itself — no waiting days for external laboratory results. Fast results enable treatment to begin immediately, which is especially important in acute situations.

Tests we perform

Our laboratory performs a comprehensive range of tests: haematology (complete blood count), clinical chemistry (liver, kidney, and pancreatic enzymes), electrolytes, hormone testing (thyroid, adrenal, cortisol), urine analysis, and urine cultures. We also perform cytological examinations — cell samples from tumours, skin, and ears.

When are blood tests needed?

Blood tests are an important part of many situations: before anaesthesia and surgery, investigating the cause of illness, monitoring chronic diseases, evaluating medication effects, and senior check-ups. In ageing pets, regular blood tests reveal changes in the kidneys, liver, and thyroid gland in time.

Sampling is easy

Taking a blood sample is a quick and virtually painless procedure. The sample is usually taken from the front leg or neck. In most cases, fasting is not required, but for lipid values, 8–12 hours of fasting is recommended. Results are reviewed together at the consultation and a treatment plan is drawn up immediately if needed.

Frequently asked questions about blood tests

Does my pet need to fast? For most blood tests, fasting is not required — you can feed your pet normally before the visit. Fasting is recommended only when testing lipid values (triglycerides, cholesterol) — in that case, 8–12 hours of fasting is sufficient. Water should be offered as normal. The veterinarian will advise when booking whether fasting is needed. How quickly are results available? In our clinic's in-house laboratory, most results are ready within 15–30 minutes, so you typically receive answers during the visit. This enables treatment to begin immediately. Less common tests such as hormone levels and special stains are sent to an external laboratory, with results available within 1–5 working days.
